3. A Tour of ValueCAN4-2EL or ValueCAN4-4 Hardware

3.1. Case and Overall Design

The ValueCAN4-X is enclosed in a solid anodized aluminum case. The device has been designed and tested for in-vehicle use. It is operational from -40°C to +85°C. An overall view of the ValueCAN4-X series can be seen in Figure 2.

Connections to the ValueCAN4-X are cable based, there are no physical connectors integrated into the products case. Cable/connector configurations options can be found in section 3.2 (Cable Options). The ValueCAN4-X has a rubber boot to protect the device against bumps and drops.

Overview of the ValueCAN4-2EL and ValueCAN4-4

The label of the ValueCAN4-2EL and ValueCAN4-4 shows the device serial number and the pinouts for the type of network cable supplied (DB-9 connector, DB26HD, or OBDII). Cable options and network connector pin details for the ValueCAN4-X can be found in Section 3.2 (Cable Options) and Section 6 (Connector Pinouts and Cable Signal Mappings).

The VCAN 4-X has two LEDs with light bars per channel on the device signifying status of the device and CAN connections, and another LED under the USB cable signifying the status of the PC USB connection. See Section 6.2 for reference regarding the LED indications and modes.

3.2. Cable Options

The ValueCAN4-2EL and ValueCAN4-4 have several cable options available. Network and PC cables are integrated into the device with options defined by the ValueCAN4-X part number.
